Saturday, July 7th: Wildflower Day in Gothic, CO
It’s peak wildflower season! To celebrate, we’ll be joining a local scientist plants to hike in Gothic, CO and learn how to identify plants using their flowers. Each girl will get their own journal to record rough sketches of the wildflowers we discover on our hike, and at the end of the day, pick one flower to paint more thoroughly. Themes for the day will include diversity of defining characteristics (flowers and us as humans), and the study of phenology (how plants change throughout a season), and how that relates to us. Change can be a good thing, and even if it seems like an overall bad change, we can alter our perspective to see the good in changes, to learn and grow from them.
Saturday, July 21st: Rock Climbing at Hartman Rocks
We’ll be traveling down to Hartman Rocks recreation area to climb and camp for a day! Local climber and certified climbing guide, Whitney Gilliam, will teach us basics of outdoor rock climbing, including how to set up a route, safety guidelines, and climbing techniques. We’ll be top-rope climbing on two different easy, beginner routes (with options to challenge ourselves by picking a slightly more challenging way up on the same route). Theme for the day will include challenging situations where confidence is key to reach the top - and even if we don’t quite reach the top, we can take our experiences to learn and try again next time. While girls are waiting for their turn to climb, they'll be working on journaling and an art activity with the rest of the group.

We'll wrap up the day by discussing what we learned and how the day's activities contributed to helping us have healthy, happy bodies.
